El Camino College Instrumental Ensembles to Perform Spring Jazz Concerts

The El Camino College Concert Jazz Band will present “Ritmo Caliente” at 8 p.m. May 22 in Marsee Auditorium. Directed by Alan Chan, El Camino College’s flagship big band will perform an exciting concert with music driven by groove and great rhythmic ideas, created by great masters as well as uprising composers. The program features works by Alex Acuña, Alan Chan, Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones, Dafnis Prieto, ECC student Mamoru Sakamoto, alumnus Anibal Seminario, and more! In addition, the ECC Studio Jazz Band will give fans of swing, jazz, and great big-band music an amazing evening full of favorite tunes performed by this dynamic ensemble. Band members blend together to create beautiful subtle moods, creative solos and exciting ensemble passages. The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. May 24 in Haag Recital Hall. Directed by David Sills, the Studio Jazz Band is a dynamic ensemble dedicated to the performance and preservation of classic, straight-ahead jazz big-band music. The ECC Guitar & Vocal Jazz ensembles will join together at 5 p.m. May 28 in Haag Recital Hall for a concert full of ensemble literature from the Renaissance to the present, including music of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, as well as jazz standards and rock styles. Jon Minei and Cynthia Dicken will direct this exciting show!
