ART

The Art Department at El Camino offers a comprehensive foundation in the history, theory and practice of art to students seeking a degree to transfer, a certificate, or courses for enrichment. Each student acquires observational, compositional, technical, interpretive, and expressive competency through participation in an extensive range of studio art courses.

Exposure to a culturally diverse art history curriculum prepares each student to analyze, assess, and discuss works of art from a variety of historical and style periods. Students have the opportunity to participate in class projects, critiques, and research papers, Students qualify to pursue a variety of art-related careers and advanced degree options.

Degrees

An Associates in Arts Degree in Art will be granted to students who complete the course requirements. An art major may be pursued in the area of Art History or Studio Art. In Studio art, there are many areas of program emphasis, including: painting and drawing, design, illustration, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry design, and graphic design. Also offered are courses in computer animation, digital illustration, digital photography, graphic design for print publishing, and motion graphics/visual effects. For more information, click here.

Certificates

Certificates of Competence or Completion are offered in Gallery Management, Jewelry Design, and Fabrication, or Digital Arts (Pending). For more information, click here.

Art Gallery

El Camino College features an art gallery with six exhibitions scheduled each year. One exhibition is devoted to showing the work of  the art department faculty and one exhibition is devoted to showing the work of outstanding students. The other four exhibitions feature well-known artists and a variety of artistic media.
