DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Upon completing the course requirements for this major, the successful student will earn an Associate in Arts Degree in Dance. The transfer program offers a variety of courses in dance technique in the areas of jazz dance, ballet and modern dance. Special areas of dance include social dance, Mexican dance, African dance, tap dance and choreography. Students also have the opportunity to perform in a public departmental dance production each semester in an informal dance showing each semester.
Completion of the dance requirements prepares students to audition for entrance into the third-year level at a four-year college or university or to audition for commercial dance fields of stage, film and television.
A.A. Degree
The degree provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the theory, history, technique, and art of dance. This is fulfilled through a structured program of dance study in the areas of core techniques, historical and contemporary styles, choreography, performance, and dance history. Students will demonstrate their proficiency through technical, interpretive, and expressive competency, research papers, essays, and public performances. Program assessment is measured by public performances, program completion, transferability, and periodic program review. Students qualify to pursue a variety of dance-related careers and advanced degree options.
