Photography: News and Events

Friday, October 22nd @ Art 106 - 10 a.m.

Renowned photojournalist Marissa Roth will be speaking in Art 106 this Friday, October 22nd at 10 a.m. The photography of Ms. Roth can be viewed at and she will be showing examples of her work and discussing her experiences as a photojournalist. She has photographed for the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, succeeding in a non-traditional field for women. (I was the first woman hired to teach Photography full-time at El Camino College.) There is a permanent installation of her work at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. She may do a lighting lecture-demonstration after her lecture, however we are currently without our teaching facilities due to flooding in the basement of the Art and Behavioral Sciences building, so the lighting demonstration is tentative. Please encourage any interested students to attend, and faculty, staff and administrators are welcome as well.

The Photography program puts on a yearly exhibition in the spring at the college library, participation in the El Camino College Student Art Exhibit and the faculty participation in the Faculty Art Exhibition every year. Photography students also get the opportunity to publish their work in the College Union newspaper and the Myriad literary journal. A special project was a set of College Foundation greeting cards with student photographs featured on each card.
