CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT (CNA)

Nursing 103 - Nurse Assistant

Nursing 103 is offered during the first 8 weeks of every semester, in February and September.

Nursing with patientThis course prepares the student to function as an entry-level worker on a health care team in a long-term care facility. Focus will be on preparing the student to provide direct care to the patient/resident; promote comfort measures; and collect, record and report data to licensed personnel. Principles of critical thinking, team building, ethics, caring and cultural sensitivity are integrated throughout the course. The student will be eligible for certification by the State of California as a nurse assistant upon satisfactory completion of this course and the State Competency Evaluation.

Prerequisite: Physical examination including a negative tuberculin skin test or a clear chest x-ray. The student must complete the English Placement Test and be eligible for English 2R.

Recommended preparation: English 2R.

This course is 8 weeks in length. Students will attend class three days per week. One day per week of lecture/lab will be held on campus and two days per week will be scheduled in various area hospitals. The total time commitment per week is 18 hours.

In addition to the college enrollment fee of $130.00, the student will be expected to pay for parking and health fees, fingerprint processing, application fee, uniforms, shoes, name badge, watch, books, nurse pack and the state examination fee. The total cost of the course is estimated to be $600.00.

Nursing 104 - Home Health Aide


Nursing 104
will be offered the last 6 weeks of every semester, in November and April.

This course prepares the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) to apply for certification as a Home Health Aide. The student will be prepared to function as an entry-level worker on the health care team in a home health agency. The focus will be on providing direct and supportive care to the client, promoting comfort measures, and collecting, recording and reporting data in the home care setting. Principles of critical thinking, team building, ethics, caring and cultural sensitivity are integrated throughout the course. Upon completion of this course, the student will be eligible for certification by the State of California as a Home Health Aide.

Enrollment is limited to the Certified Nurse Assistant

This 6 week course will have 4.5 hours of lecture in the Nursing Department and 4.5 hours of clinical experience at various area hospitals per week.

The cost of the course is a $52.00 enrollment fee,  plus books, course materials, and fingerprinting. The total cost is estimated to be $100 - $150.
