Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I obtain an Application?
See Application Procedure on the left side links

Regarding the Prerequisite Courses: 4 units of Anatomy, 4 units of Physiology and 3 units RTEC A
Can I take these classes at other colleges? Which courses are acceptable at ECC?
At ECC - Anatomy 32 is the 4 unit required course (not Anatomy 30) . Physiology 31 (also requires a prerequisite of Chemistry (4, 20 or 21)
RTEC A - 3 units at El Camino CollegeAnatomy and Physiology courses taken at other accredited colleges are acceptable if: A combo course (A&P) equals 8 units. (4 units each). A 5 or 6 unit course does not meet the 8 unit requirement - this type of course *may (* upon review and evaluation by the Program Director) be used to satisfy the physiology requirement, but a 4 unit Anatomy class must be still completed to meet the requirements of the program- before starting the Rad Tech Program..
Introductory to Radiologic Technology (RTEC A) - must be completed at ECC in order to file an application to the program - other radiologic technology intro courses from other colleges will not be accepted .
-
What time of the year are applications accepted?
See Application Procedure on the left side links
-
How many students are accepted each year?
The number of students accepted are dependent on the number of clinical sites and positions available - generally from 20 - 24 students per year
-
When does the Program begin? How long is it?
A new class of students begin each Fall Semester. The program is 25 months in length.
-
Is there a waiting list? How long is it?
Due to the large number of applications and potentially long waiting period - beginning 2011 the application process was changed to an annual application with no more waiting lists.
-
Can I work full time and still attend the Program?
This Radiologic Technology Program is a daytime full-time program. Time requirements for the courses taken on campus as well as the clinical internship may require attendance commitments on some days as early as 7:00 am to as late as 7:00 pm, Monday thru Fridays, depending on the semester of attendance. Please see the schedule of courses and clinical hours on the information section of the main web page for further details.
To be successful in the program, it is strongly recommended that students do not work more than 20 hours per week. This is a rigors program that requires many hours of study and homework in addition to class and clinical attendance.

How much does the Program cost?
Generally the total program cost is about $2000.00 for the 2 year period. This includes tuition, books, uniforms, etc.
The current cost for state and national licensure applications are approximately $300.00

What certification(s) will a student get at the completion of the 2 year Radiologic Technology Program at ECC?
Students complete the Program with an A.S. Degree in Radiologic Technology.
Graduates are eligible to apply for the ARRT (RT) licensing exam.
Once completed, the RT graduate can then apply for certification by the CDPH-RHB (State of California) CRT (R).
The RT graduate may also apply to take the CDPH-RHB Fluoroscopy Exam to obtain a fluoroscopy permit for the State of California.
As soon as the RT graduate obtains thier ARRT (R) licensure and CRT (RT) certification, they may apply for employment as a Radiologic Technologist.
This process is usually completed within one month of completion of the program.
