This course is an introduction to Mandarin Chinese, taught within
the context of Chinese culture. It will cover comprehension, speaking,
reading, and writing, as well as a study of grammar, vocabulary and
pronunciation.

or 2 years of high school Chinese or equivalent

This course emphasizes grammar, writing of Chinese characters, and
conversation within the context of Chinese culture.

Beginning Conversational Chinese

2 units; 2 hours lecture
Prerequisite: Chinese 1 with minimum grade of C or equivalent

This course is designed to develop competency in oral expression,
oral comprehension and conversational strategies.

Intermediate Conversational

Chinese 2 units; 2 hours lecture
Prerequisite: Chinese 2 and Chinese 21ab with a minimum grade

fluency in oral expression, to increase oral comprehension and to
