DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
A.A. Degree
The degree program in English develops the student’s ability to read both prose and poetry with understanding and discernment. The student will acquire competence in writing college-level expository essays and applying research strategies. The student will also develop interpretive and analytical skills through exposure to a wide range of literature. Competencies will be assessed primarily by evaluating the student’s critical thinking abilities as demonstrated through written work. Completion of the program prepares the English major for any profession or industry requiring strong communication skills as well as transfer.

Complete the Following:
English 1A and either English IC or English 1B [total 7 units];
Plus 2 courses from the following Literature courses:
English 15A, 15B, 20, 21, 35, 36, 40A, 40B [total 6 units];
Plus 2 courses from the following English elective courses:
English 1B*, 1C*, 10, 12, 15A*, 15B*, 18, 20*, 21*, 22, 23, 24A, 25A, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32abc, 33, 34, 35*, 36*, 38, 39, 40A*, 40B*, 41A, 41B, 42, 43, 44, 46, 47, 48, 98abcd [total 6 units].

Other Requirements
At least 50% of the above required courses must be completed at ECC.
A total of 60 degree applicable general education units with a 2.0 cumulative GPA and grade of C or higher for all major courses.
