English as a Second Language Counselor
Education: Bachelors of Science and Masters degrees in Language and Linguistics from Georgetown University. Diploma of French and Certificate of Study in Portuguese from the Universite de Bordeaux, France and the Universidade do Espiritu Santa, Brazil. TESOL Certificate from UCLA.
Experience: Taught French, Spanish and Portuguese in high school in Fairfax County, Virginia. Taught French and Spanish in Santa Monica and Palos Verdes Intermediate Schools. Taught FLES in Beverly Hills and was director of the French program at Carden Dominion Elementary School. Has taught ESL writing and grammar at El Camino since Fall, 2000.
Interesting Facts: Rita is impressed with El Camino’s
commitment to the ESL program where each student has access to a
myriad of resources to address specific needs and concerns. Away
from the college, she enjoys spending time with her husband and
keeping up with the lives of her son and daughter who are currently
serving in the United States Army in Germany. She also enjoys
gourmet cooking, playing music on her new digital piano, visiting
art galleries and bookstores, exercising, surfing the Internet and
keeping up with the latest in effective learning techniques by
attending classes and comparing notes with other teaching
professionals.
