 A. Robert Young, Ph.D. Professor of English as a Second Language
Education: AA Cerritos College; BA, TESL Certificate, UCLA; MA and Ph.D. University of Southern California. Also attended University of Arizona in Guadalajara, Mexico; University of Salamanca, Spain; Monterey Institute of International Studies, Monterey, California; and School of International Training, Brattleboro, Vermont. Areas of study included Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and TESL.
Experience: Has been teaching at the community college level for over 30 years (the last 20+ at El Camino). Taught at Rio Hondo College, Santa Rosa Jr. College, and USC. Co-author of the text Nitty Gritty Grammar (Cambridge University Press, 1994). Has presented papers at LACATESOL, CATESOL, and TESOL conferences as well as being on the organizing committee for all three conferences.
Interesting Facts: Robert was born in Ireland and has been married for over 25 years to Helen, whose parents are from France and Croatia. He has three boys, two of whom graduated of UCLA after attending El Camino; the third is a student at the University of California, Berkeley. His hobbies are jogging, eating good food, gardening and reading. In his youth he traveled widely, including to the USSR, Portugal, Morocco, Poland and Mexico. He has translated the Mexican novella Rosenda by Jose Ruben Romero and is looking for a publisher.
