The Writing Center

Services offered during COVID-19 crisis

As the pandemic crisis and El Camino’s response develop, the Writing Center is working to maintain access to help for students as they endeavor to continue in their studies. Beginning Monday, March 23, the Writing Center will offer feedback on student work online.

To submit an essay, students simply need to send an email to writingctrstaff@elcamino.edu with “Draft Check” in the subject line. Students can send their essays pasted into the body of the email, as a Word attachment, or they can share the essay with writingctrstaff@elcamino.edu in Google Docs. For Docs, simply click the blue “Share” button on the right side of the window, select “anyone with the link can comment” from the pull down menu, and copy and paste the link into the email. We strongly recommend students use their El Camino student email.

Students should attach, copy and paste, or provide a link to the professor’s essay prompt, question, and/or essay requirements. Students should also include their full name and student ID number and their class (for example, English 1A or Sociology 101), along with any question they have for the tutor.

The Writing Center will operate Monday through Wednesday 7:00 am to 8:30 pm, Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students can expect a response in one working day. Tutor response will emphasize concerns over structure and support, but we cannot provide line-by-line proofreading.

The Writing Center hopes to adapt to the difficult circumstances students face, and we will work to develop new ways of supporting instructors and students.

The Writing Center offers every El Camino College student one-on-one assistance with writing a college essay. Our highly qualified professional tutors, all of whom have a bachelor's or master's degree, also provide tutorials in grammar, Internet research, documentation, and specialized writing tasks such as cover letters and application essays. All services are drop-in; no appointment is necessary. We look forward to helping everyone navigate a successful journey. Welcome aboard!
