RULES

COMPUTER USE:

Computers are for academic purposes only. That means the following:

  • NO sending and/or receiving non-academic emails. No saving documents on email.
  • NO chatting or going online.
  • NO web communities, i.e., BlackPlanet.com, MySpace.com, Friendster, Zanga.com, EBay.com,MTV.com, video game sites, Gay/Lesbian.com, etc.
  • NO computer games.
  • NO food, drinks, cellphones, or music devices ( MP3s, IPods, CD players).
  • NO disruptive behavior.

SAVING DOCUMENTS:

  • Never load files onto the hard drive.
  • All documents saved to the hard drive will be deleted.
  • Save all work on a floppy disk, ZIP disk, CD Rewritable, or USB port (preferred).

MONITORS:

  • Never change computer settings.

PRINTING:

  • Never print more than 15 pages per job.
  • Never print web pages from the Internet directly. Copy and paste only what is needed to a new Microsoft Word document and then print.
  • Printing is for academic use only. No campus club affiliated printing is allowed.

    WRITING CENTER USE:

    Arriving:

    • On arriving, you must both sign in and register on the computer at the front desk in room C202.
    • Place your student ID card on top of the computer.

    While Here:

    • Don't leave your computer unattended just to leave for other business. (If you need to use the restroom, notify the receptionist.)
    • Don't sign up for a tutoring conference until you have finished with your computer.

    Leaving:

    • On leaving, close all applications, tidy up the workstation, and push in your chair. Do not switch the power off. You must check out at the front desk.

    PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS?

    Ask the receptionist or lab technician for help.

    CONSEQUENCES:

    After two warnings, failure to abide by the rules will result in your being suspended from the lab.
