This course is designed to explore topics in Architecture more specific than provided in other courses in the regular departmental curriculum. Students are referred to the current schedule of classes for details of specific courses.
Architecture 96abcd Cooperative Career Education2-4 units; hours to be arranged Enrollment Limitation: Parallel Plan (Work and Attend School at the Same Time): Enrollment in a minimum of seven units, including Cooperative Career Education; employment in a job related to the major or career goal by the third week of the semester; completion of or current enrollment in one course from the major Alternate Plan (Work and Attend School Alternately): Successful completion of one semester at El Camino College including one course from the major before initial enrollment in plan; enrollment limited to one other class during the semester; employment in a job related to the major or career goal by the third week of the semester; successful completion of at least seven units of other class work at El Camino before re-enrolling in plan Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU - limitations apply
Through a set of learning objectives established by the student, employer, and instructor, each student will work with and learn from experts in the Architecture field. These experiences will enable students to improve job skills, analyze career opportunities and requirements, and compare these to personal potential and expectations.

This course provides special advanced studies in a subject field of Architecture not covered in the regular departmental offerings. Regular conferences with instructor are coordinated with assigned Architecture projects (60 hours per unit).

This course is an orientation to architecture for the beginning student. The student will learn how architecture is created and understood as well as how it shapes the social and urban environment. Opportunities for further education and career options will be discussed.
Architecture 104 History of Western Architecture3 units; 3 hours lecture Recommended Preparation: eligibility for English 2R Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU, UC*
In this course students are introduced to the architecture of both ancient and recent cultures. Buildings from antiquity to the present day will be studied, analyzed, and interpreted in terms of their religious, social, and political context. Particular emphasis will be placed on the process and sources of design and the purposes and types of buildings.
Architecture 120abcd (formerly 120) Computer Aided Architectural Drafting3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab Prerequisite: Architecture 150A with a minimum grade of C or equivalent Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This is a course in the study of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) with regard to Architecture. Students will produce working drawings using AutoCAD Architectural Desktop Software.
Architecture 121abcd Advanced Architectural AutoCAD3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab Prerequisite: one semester of Architecture 120abcd with a minimum grade of C or equivalent Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This is an advanced course in computer aided design using the AutoCAD Architectural Desktop software. Students will create three dimensional massing models of buildings, and learn how to insert various library elements into drawings to create construction documents. Camera angles to form perspectives as well as animated videos of modeled buildings will be covered.
Architecture 125abcd Three-Dimensional Architectural Computer Aided Design3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab Prerequisite: Architecture 120abcd with a minimum grade of C or equivalent Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This is an advanced class in the study of three-dimensional (3-D) computer aided design for Architecture. The course will use AutoCAD Architectural Desktop and 3D Studio as the primary software to teach how to model, surface, light and animate the design of a building and its surrounding environmental context.

Architecture 150A Architectural Drafting I3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab to be arranged Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This course provides an introduction to drafting plot plans, floor plans, foundation plans, building sections and elevations. The students will be able to identify commonly used lines, symbols and learn how to draft a basic set of working drawings. They will also have exposure to the Uniform Building Code and begin to understand city zoning ordinances and codes.
Architecture 150B Architectural Drafting II3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab to be arranged Prerequisite: Architecture 150A with a minimum grade of C or equivalent Recommended Preparation: concurrent enrollment in one semester of Architecture 120abcd Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This is an advanced level drafting class covering residential buildings. The student will develop working drawings for a two story residence on a low sloping site. Instruction will stress the construction process, structural detailing and uniform building code requirements for residential Type V construction.
Architecture 158 Structures Analysis - Timber3 units; 3 hours lecture Recommended Preparation: eligibility for English A Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
In this course students are introduced to the analysis of structural components in residential buildings. Topics covered include vertical and horizontal loadings, shear and moment diagrams, wood, laminated wood and steel beams, wood and steel columns, foundation sizing, and lateral bracing systems.
Architecture 170 (formerly 151A) Architectural Graphic Techniques3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab to be arranged Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This introductory course acquaints the student with the range of graphic tools which are available for conveying architectural ideas. Various graphic conventions and techniques will be presented and the rationale behind their use explained.
Architecture 171 (formerly 151B) Architectural Three-Dimensional Illustration3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab to be arranged Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This is a course in three-dimensional pictorial drawing that covers one, two and three point perspective. The most popular methods of construction will be used in producing these drawings. Special attention is given to short-cut methods used by professionals. The use of shade and shadow, reflections and mirror images will also be covered.
Architecture 172 (formerly 151C) Architectural Color Rendering Techniques3 units; 2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab to be arranged Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This course is a study of the application of the techniques architectural illustrators use to render architectural presentation drawings. The course is taught primarily using design marker and color pencil medium.
Architecture 180abcd (formerly 180) Design/Build Studio4 units; 2 hours lecture, 6 hours lab Prerequisite: Architecture 150A or Construction Technology 100 or Construction Technology 110 with a minimum grade of C in prerequisite or equivalent Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU
This course introduces the architectural student to the building design and construction process. Team collaboration will be stressed from the generation of the building design through the fabrication of the structure. Scheduling, budgeting and financing of construction projects will also be covered.
Architecture 199ab (formerly 101ab) Architectural Design Studio4 units; 2 hours lecture, 6 hours lab to be arranged Prerequisite: Architecture 150B, 170 and 171 with a minimum grade of C in prerequisite Credit, degree applicable Transfer CSU, UC*
This course introduces the advanced students to the factors that architects observe when formulating the solution to a problem. Students will design and compose two and three dimensional drawings as well as build models to demonstrate their solutions.
