SYLLABUS

The learning and training process at the El Camino Police Training Program requires a serious commitment by the cadet and his or her family and friends.  It is the responsibility of each individual to insure that they can devote the time needed to the Program.  This Training Program is a non-traditional college course, conducted in a semi-military atmosphere.  Cadets are required to learn extensive academic materials and additionally to participate in physical exercise and field activities that are required in police work.

The curriculum includes but not limited to Law, Behavioral Science, Police Science, Physical Training, Defensive Tactics, First Aid-CPR, and Firearms Training.  Candidates who complete the vigorous eighteen (18) week Police Training Program are eligible to receive nineteen (19) unit college credits. POST certificates are award upon successful completion of each level. Limited Law Enforcement duties are permitted according to the highest certificate achieved.

The ECC Police Training Program curriculum is constantly being reviewed and revised to respond to ever evolving crime reducing trends and responding to new and existing threats.  Courses cover a wide verity of subjects and Cadets are required to demonstrate mastery of the curriculum by achieving a minimum passing score on each POST mandated exams.  Cadets who are unable to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter are required to re-test. If they do not pass the re-test attempt, the cadet shall be immediately dropped from the Training Program.

The ECC Police Training Program curriculum also contains hands on training and evaluation through scenario-based training.  Each Cadet is evaluated through these training, as well as numerous role-play exercises and workshops, and must successfully complete each training phase in accordance with the minimum mandated standards of the Training Program.
