POLICY & PROCEDURE FOR THIRD-TIME ENROLLMENT
Mathematics and Computer Science Courses
A third-time repeater (3TR) student is a student who has previously completed a course two times with grades of “D,” “F,” or “NC.” Because the State of California does not provide funding for a 3TR’s enrollment, these students will be able to add a class only after other students have enrolled or added. 3TR students may be eligible for enrollment at another community college.
3TR students must request a place in a class in writing using the Mathematical Sciences Division’s “Request for Third Time Enrollment” form. Near the end of the normal add period, the instructor will determine if he or she can accommodate the 3TR student. Priority will be given to students who have attended all meetings of the course through the normal add deadline.
3TR enrollment requires the following procedure:
- The student obtains a 3TR request form from the Mathematical Sciences Division Office (MCS 101) and fills in Parts 1 and 3. The Division Office verifies the student’s 3TR status (Part 2).
- The student presents the 3TR form to the instructor at the first class meeting and, with the instructor’s permission, attends the class.
- The instructor approves or denies the 3TR request (Part 4) and returns the request form to the student with an add slip. Approval may be delayed until near the end of the normal add period, to allow other students to enroll.
- The student whose request has been approved returns both the 3TR form and the approved add slip to the Mathematical Sciences Division Office no later than the announced “Approved 3TR due date.”
- The Mathematical Sciences Division Office will clear the student for enrollment and will submit the add slip directly to the Admissions Office.
The Mathematical Sciences Division is open to comments about this policy and procedure. Written comments and suggestions can be submitted at the Mathematical Sciences Division Office.
