Mr. David Vakil
I received my bachelor's degree from University of Arizona in Physics, Math, and Astronomy in 1997 and my master's in astronomy from Caltech in 2000. I love my job which I began as a full-time physics and astronomy teacher at El Camino College in Fall 2000. I have taught two mechanics classes for the Physics dept (1A and 2A) and most of the astronomy courses. I currently teach Stars and Galaxies (astro 25) and Solar System (astro 20). I have written a lab manual for the Astronomy 12 Lab course which some other instructors use. I also occasionally teach Physics 2A during the summers. Here is a link to my homepage, from which you can access my course websites and videos for most classes I have taught since mid-Spring 2008.
One of my other claims to fame at ECC is that I am the "clicker guy" because I have been using clickers in my classes, with much success, since Spring 2006. I recently got a grant so I could get clicker sets for the entire school. For more information go to this link.
On a personal note, I got married in August 2008 and have been enjoying wedded bliss ever since. I am now proud to have a stepson and our 4 cats, Penny, Demon, Sam, and C.J. The picture shown here is a bit dated; my wife won't let me wear that shirt anymore, after it got washed a few (dozen) too many times.
