Melvin KantzEducation: Teaching Experience: I have been teaching Chemistry at area colleges since 2000. At El Camino, I have taught Chem 20, Chem 4, and Chem 1A since 2002. I have also taught similar introductory and general Chemistry courses at Fullerton College and Harbor College. During the 2009 and 2010 summer quarters, I taught Organic Reactions and Pharmaceuticals (Chem 14D) at UCLA through the Extension Division. Industrial Research & Consulting Experience: I have over thirty years of bench chemistry and polymer physics research experience with Monsanto Research (Mound Laboratory), Shell Development Corp., and Congoleum Corp. Later in my career in management, I served as Director of Research & Development at Ferro Advanced Composites in Los Angeles and as Technical Director at M.C. Gill Corp. in El Monte. My forensic science and engineering consulting practice is in Long Beach where I investigate failures of materials and products and provide expert testimony. Professional affiliations include American Chemical Society, Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals, Materials Research Society, American Society for Testing and Materials, and American Society of Safety Engineers. My wife, Dr. Kathie Kantz, and I have five sons who have given us nine grandchildren and two Labrador Retrievers. |
