ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Anatomy 30
Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology

4 units: 2 hr. lecture, 6 hr. lab
Recommended preparation: eligibility for English 1A
Credit, degree applicable
Transfers to CSU & UC (UC credit limitation)

Comparative study of anatomy and physiology in the human and fetal pig. Includes dissection of the preserved fetal pig. The similarity of structure and function of the organ systems of human and pig are discussed. In addition, basic principles of histology, embryology, and genetics are included. This is an introductory general education course designed primarily for non-professional majors. It may meet the Anatomy requirements for the two-year RN and some other health related programs but is not designed to meet the requirements for the BSN and other pre-professional programs.  This course is highly recommended as an introductory course to Anatomy 32 and Physiology 31, which are the courses designed for the BSN and pre-professional student.

Anatomy 32
Principles of Human Anatomy

4 units: 2 hr. lecture, 6 hr. lab
Recommended preparation: eligibility for English 1A
Credit, degree applicable
Transfers to CSU, UC (credit limitation); (CAN BIOL 10; Anatomy 32, Physiology 31= CAN BIOL SEQ B)

Includes laboratory dissection of preserved cats, supplemented with charts and models of the human body. Separate studies of the skeletal, nervous, muscular, respiratory, digestive, circulatory, endocrine, excretory, and reproductive systems, as well as the tissues of the human body peculiar to each system. Designed for biology, health-related, pre-nursing (BSN), and pre-professional majors.

Anatomy 99abc
Independent Study

1-3 units
Enrollment limitation: one course in Anatomy with a minimum grade of B
and acknowledgment by the instructor with whom the student will work.
Credit, degree applicable
Transfers to CSU

This course provides special advanced studies in the subject field of Anatomy. Regular conferences with an instructor are coordinated with assigned laboratory work and research projects (60 hr. per unit).

Physiology 31
Human Physiology

4 units: 2 hr. lecture, 6 hr. lab
Prerequisite: Anatomy 30 or 32 and Chemistry 20, 21A or 4
with a minimum grade of C in prerequisites
Credit, degree applicable
Transfers to CSU, UC (credit limitation) (CAN BIOL 12; Physiology 31, Anatomy 32 = CAN BIOL SEQ B)

This course is a study of cellular physiology and the functional aspects of the following human body systems: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, reproductive, muscle, nervous, and endocrine. In the laboratory, experiments are performed to demonstrate principles discussed in lecture. This course is designed primarily for those majoring in the Health Sciences.
