SLO - STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Student learning outcomes (SLOs) are the specific observable or measurable results that are expected at the end of a learning experience (i.e. a course; a program of study; a degree or certificate; or set of interactions with student or library services).
SLOs exist and are assessed at three levels:
- Course
- Program
- Institutional (outcomes at this level are called core competencies)
The general steps for assessing an SLO are as follows:
- Identify: identify (or modify) the outcome(s) you wish to assess and the methods / instruments you wish to utilize to assess the outcome. Identify the key people involved in assessment the outcome(s).
- Assess: using the assessment methods identified, assess the outcomes and collect and compile the data.
- Reflect: reflect on the implications of the data and determine ways to improve based on the data.
- Improve: make the necessary improvements and close the loop
Creating, locating, editing & reporting on SLOs can be done via the CurricUNET SLO module.
