CALIFORNIA MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM (CECMTP)
Mentor Teachers:
The California Early Childhood Mentor Teacher Program is designed for childcare professionals. The program provides advanced training for experienced childcare professionals who wish to become mentors. To become a mentor students must :
1. hold, or be eligible for, the Master Teacher Child Development Permit 2. have satisfactorily completed CD20, Student Teaching Practicum. and CD 31 Supervising and Mentoring Adults 3. submit an application to the El Camino College Selection Committee for review.
Once they have passed the paper screening, two selection committee members will visit the mentor site and conduct a quality review using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECHERS). The prospective mentor completes the same review.= on his/her own site. The next step is an interview with the committee. Mentors are then notified if they have been selected to become a California Early Childhood Mentor. Once selected, the mentor receives a stipend for continuing and in-service training and for supervising student teachers assigned to their classrooms.
Director Mentors:
This component offers experienced program directors an opportunity to mentor less experienced or "protege" mentors. Mentors must have a minimum of five years of experience as a program director. The perspective mentor goes through an interview process with the El Camino College Selection Committee. If selected, the Director Mentor is paid a stipend for guiding and offering practical help to the protege director or site supervisor.
