Joy Zhao came up with the idea of H.O.P.E. during the 1st (sleepless) night in Beijing on 8/4/07. The acronym, easy to remember, aimed to help the participating faculty to record the research findings during their days in China. On the morning of 8/6/07, we held a quick meeting on the bus and assigned the days in China--each researcher was to be in charge of one day.
