The Global Cultures Course
is held in a shared virtual classroom with students and
faculty from three other countries. This model was developed
by Dr. Rosina C. Chia and Dr. Elmer Poe at East Carolina
University (http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/globalinitiatives/course.cfm)
and adapted by El Camino College in fall 2004.
ECC partners included Dnipropetrovsk National University
in Ukraine, University of Modena at Reggio Emilia in
Italy and Lebanese University in Beirut. In addition
to lectures and discussions on topics such as family,
cultural traditions, work and a meaning of life, the
course provides students with direct personal experience
with their international peers via real time video, chat,
and daily emails.
