Mr. Fahnestock has served at the executive level in higher education institutions within the California State University and California Community Colleges systems.  His career in financial management began over 30 years ago as a naval officer and financial controller. After leaving the military, Mr Fahnestock served as the Division Chief at the Office of the Auditor-Controller and later as the Assistant Director  of General Services for the County of Santa Barbara.  In 1999, he joined Santa Barbara City College as the Vice President of Business Services for four years.  Mr. Fahnestock then helped launch a technology firm which specialized in financial reporting and data accessibility.  In 2013, he rejoined the community college system, as Vice Chancellor of Business and Administrative Services for the Ventura County Community College District.  In that capacity he designed analytical tools to measure schedule capacity, course fill rates, and productivity.  More recently he served as the Associate Vice President of Fiscal Affairs at San Francisco State University.

Mr. Fahnestock earned a Master's degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.
