Warriors Finish Season At State

May 10, 2014

Results

TanaSophomore Bryar Cochran and freshman Tatiana Granados represented El Camino College at the Badminton State Championships at De Anza College May 9-10.

Cochran competed in singles falling to Deepthi Rao from Irvine Valley College and in the consolation bracket she lost to Lori Ng of De Anza.

Cochran and Granados paired up in the doubles bracket falling to Jessey Wang and Eva Chen from Irvine Valley. In the consolation bracket they were defeated by Carmina Ortiz and Prelilne Bonifacio from Pasadena City College.

De Anza College swept the tournament by winning the team title, the single titles with Pinky Li and the double titles with Li and Christina Ja.

 


Cochran Advances To State Tournament

CochranThe El Camino badminton team competed in the South Coast Conference Individual Championships Friday at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.

Two Warriors advanced to the State Tournament at De Anza Friday-Saturday. Bryar Cochran advanced to the quarterfinals to advance in singles and she also advanced in doubles with teammate Tana Granados.

Warriors Drop Two Games To East LA

GonzalezThe El Camino badminton team (1-11) finished the regular season on Wednesday with a doubleheader against East LA. The Huskies took game one 11-2 and game two, 11-1. The Warriors will now prepare for the South Coast Conference tournament May 2.

Warriors Win First Match 18-3

SmithThe El Camino badminton team (1-9) earned its first win of the season over Compton College 18-3 on Tuesday in the North Gym.

Bryar Cochran at No. 2 singles won both of her singles match and her doubles match with Natalie Medina. The Warriors also got singles wins from Jeanne Manansala, Tana Granados and Medina.

Warriors Drop Two Home Matches

March 26, 2014

The El Camino badminton team dropped to 0-4 on the year with two home losses on the week. The Warriors dropped their closest match of the year vs. Compton College, 13-8 on Monday. On Wednesday, they fell to Pasadena City College, 20-1.

Bryar Cochran at No. 1 singles defeated Compton's No. 2 Lina Gonzalez, 21-11, 21-9. Natalie Medina at No. 2 singles also defeated Gonzalez, 22-20, 22-20.

Tonya Gonzalez won both of her singles matches at the No. 3 spot. She defeated Compton's No. 3 Blanca Herrera, 21-10, 21-16 and the No. 4 player, Ari Aguilar, 21-9, 21-16.

In doubles, Cochran and Medina at the No. 1 spot defeated Compton's No. 2 team of Herrera and Ingrid Flores, 21-15, 21-12. The No. 2 team of Smith and Gonzalez also defeated Herrera and Flores, 19-21, 21-17, 21-14.

The lone win for El Camino against Pasadena came from No. 5 Tanya Granados over No. 5 Jamie Chi, 21-12, 21-17.


Warriors Drop Season Opener To East LA

March 12, 2014

The El Camino badminton team opened its season in the North Gym on the ECC campus Wednesday falling to East LA, 18-3.

The Warriors won three matches as Tatiana Granados at No. 5 singles defeated No. 6 Mei Mei, 21-15, 21-17. No. 6 singles player Tonya Gonzalez also defeated Mei, 21-12, 21-10.

Gonzalez and Granados teamed up in No. 3 doubles to defeat Mei and Shaojin Wei, 21-19, 21-19.

The only three-set match on the day saw Wei defeat Granados, 21-19, 17-21, 21-19.
