ECC Baseball Model of Consistency

Since head coach Nate Fernley took over 3 years ago, El Camino Baseball has had great success both in and out of conference play. The Warriors rank 3rd in Southern California junior colleges in overall regular season wins with 87. In that span they have a .680 winning percentage and a record of 87-41. They also have recorded 52 conference wins never finishing lower than 2nd place while winning a conference championship in 2007. Not only has the team been successful as a group but the success has translated into individual honors as well. The Warriors have a conference best 23 players named to the All-Conference team between the 2007 to 2009 seasons. Below are state and conference rankings demonstrating the success that El Camino baseball has had since the start of the 2007 season.

 Former Warriors 
 Warriors Make Impact at Next Level

Warriors transferring to 4 year schools have shown that they not only compete at the next level but are excelling. From 2007 to 2008 the Warriors have had 21 student athletes move on to 4 year schools. That number has grown as the season wrapped up in 2009. Those that have gone on to play have seen outstanding success. 2007 Warrior standout third baseman  Dane Braunecker was named to the All West Coast Conference first team for the University of San Fransisco. Fellow 2007 teammate Ross Babineaux was named Player of the Year in the MEAC Conference. Hitting over .400 Ross  ranked in the top 50 in hitting for Division 1 baseball players while starring at Deleware State. 2008 Warrior Ryan Lopez was named the NAIA national gold glove 2nd baseman. Making a total of 4 errors in 230 chances.


 

 

 Chris Medlen
Former Warrior Kris Medlen Makes Big Leagues

Chris Medlen was called up recently to the major leagues joining the Atlanta Braves. Medlen was an All-Conference performer for the Warriors in 2004 while starring at shortstop and on the mound.  After transferring to Santa Ana College in 2006 he was drafted in the 10th round. Medlen joins six other El Camino alumns who have made the major leagues, including former NL MVP George Foster and Don Slaught.


 

  

 Estrada
Robbie Estrada Continues to Make Progress with Devil Rays

Former El Camino shortstop Robbie Estrada continues to make progress in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization. Estrada who was a first team All-Conference performer in 2007 for the Warriors enters into his third season as a professional. Estrada is now with the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the South Atlantic league. Playing everyday and teaming up with Tampa's 2008 number one draft pick Tim Beckham up the middle, the two give the Devil Rays a bright future for years to come.


  Moen Signs with University of Oregon

Kellen Moen has signed a national letter of intent with the University of OregonSophomore pitcher Kellen Moen has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Oregon for the 2009-2010 school year. Moen was a 1st team All-Conference member in 2008. He posted an 8-2 record with a 2.74 ERA. He was also among the state leaders in strikeouts per 9 innings. “Kellen has worked very hard on and off the field and is very deserving of this opportunity” said Coach Nate Fernley. Moen is a scholar baller, which honors student athletes who carry higher than a 3.0 gpa, and is a graduate of Peninsula High School.

 2007 Warriors Move On to the Next Level

After going 32-15 and winning the first conference championship in 19 years, 11 Warriors from the 2007 team have moved on to 4 year schools or the professional ranks. Shortstop Robi Estrada signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and has just completed his first season in the minor leagues. Dane Braunecker, Jeff Mckinley, Brian Ramirez, Alan Gatz, Ross Babinueax and Garret Ozar all received scholarships to continue on at the next level at 4 year schools. Kyle Leamy, Nick Jones, Anthony McCaw and Billy Applegate all have transferred to 4 year schools academically and will try to walk on and play at their respective colleges. In addition to the 11 already in new homes Gilbert Camacho and Derrek Duarte are planning on transferring and playing this spring at 4 year schools as well.

Baseball takes share of South Coast Conference title as 1st year head coach Nate Fernley takes co-coach of the year

The Warriors have eleven players make all conference honors and will host Moorpark College in the regional playoffs this Friday.  Come out and support the Warriors in the 2007 State Playoffs.  COA State Playoffs are conducted within the state rules and admission will be charged for all spectators.
