Men's Cross Country Finishes 16th at State Championships

FRESNO, Calif. – Sophomore Solomon Kanehailua (North Torrance HS) finished 34th overall in the 208-runner field to lead the men’s cross country team to a 16th place finish at the California State Championships on Saturday.

Kanehailua completed the 4-mile course in 21:20. Freshman Michael Moody (Peninsula HS) followed up with a 97th place finish (22:10), and freshman Chance Weston (Mira Costa HS) earned 111th place (22:15) to round out the top three.

Women's Cross Country Ends Season with 21st Place Finish at State Meet

FRESNO, Calif. – The El Camino College women’s cross country team battled to a 21st place finish at the California State Championships on Saturday.

Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) garnered a 68th place finish out of 211 runners on the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:06. Sophomore Judith Torres (Torrance HS) finished 109th (20:42), while freshman Xiomara Perkins (Valencia HS) earned a 118th place finish in 20:52).

Warriors Finish 14th at Southern California Championships; Advance to State Meet

EL CAJON, Calif. – For the third-straight race, freshman Solomon Kanehailua (North Torrance HS) posted the best finish for the El Camino College men’s cross country team as the Warriors finished 14th at the Southern California Championships on Friday.

Kanehailua completed the 4-mile course in 21:15, good for 13th place overall out of the 193-runner field. Freshman Chance Weston (Mira Costa HS) earned the second-best finish for the team in 67th (22:17), while freshman David Hodges (Mira Costa HS) finished 108th (22:47).  

The Warriors head to Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. to compete in the State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Women’s Cross Country Earns 17th Place Finish at Southern California Championships; Qualifies for State Championships

EL CAJON, Calif. – The El Camino College women’s cross country team finished 17th out of 27 teams and qualified for the California State Championships on Friday.

Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) led the team with a 60th place finish out of 187 runners (20:44) on the 5,000 meter course, and sophomore Judith Torres (Torrance HS) earned a 95th place finish (21:31). Freshman Jennifer Villarreal (North Torrance HS) rounded out the team’s top three with a 99th place finish in 21:38.

The Warriors head to Fresno, Calif. for the State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21. The race will be held at Woodward Park.

Kanehaiula Leads Warriors to Second Place at SCC Championships; Team Advances to Southern Cal Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The El Camino College men’s cross country team finished second at the South Coast Conference Championships, led by freshman Solomon Kanehailua’s (North Torrance HS) eighth place finish on Friday afternoon.

Kanehailua completed the four-mile run in 23:22 in the 65-runner field to earn first team honors. Freshman Jacob Helftgott (Mira Costa HS) finished 11th (23:51), and freshman Michael Moody (Peninsula HS) was the team’s third-best finisher with a 13th place showing (24:04) – both earning second-team recognition.

The Warriors compete in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 6 at Mission Bay in San Diego.

Griffie Finishes Sixth to Lead Women’s Cross Country to Third at SCC Championships; Team Advances to Southern Cal Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) finished sixth overall out of 50 runners to earn first team honors, leading the women’s cross country team to a third place finish at the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday afternoon.

Griffie finished the 5,000-meter course in 21:44 with freshman Jennifer Villarreal (North Torrance HS) close behind in 12th place (22:27), earning a second-team nod. Freshman Xiomara Perkins (Valencia HS) ran the third fastest time for ECC, completing the course in 22:49, good for 16th.

Cerritos took the team title, led by Marylu Pulido’s 20:36 effort.

The Warriors advance to the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 6. The race will be held at Mission Bay in San Diego.

Kanehaiula Leads Warriors to Seventh Place Showing at Mt. SAC Invite

WALNUT, Calif. – Freshman Solomon Kanehaiula (North Torrance HS) paced the El Camino College men’s cross country team to a seventh place finish out of 18 teams on Friday at the Mt. SAC Invitational. The team was the fourth best Southern California finishing team.

Kanehaiula finished the four-mile race 20th overall in the 190-runner field in a time of 21:50. Freshman Chance Weston (Mira Costa HS) had the team’s next best finish, finishing in 22:40, good for 46th overall.

The Warriors have a week off before hosting the South Coast Conference Championships in Palos Verdes on Friday, Oct. 30. The men’s four-mile race is slated to begin at 3:15 p.m.

Cross Country Finishes Eighth at Mt. SAC Invite

WALNUT, Calif. – The women’s cross country team finished eighth out of 18 teams, fourth out of the Southern California teams, at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday 

Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) posted the best finish for the women, completing the three-mile course in 19:55, good for 24th out of 143 runners. Freshman Jennifer Villarreal (North Torrance HS) was the team’s second-best finisher, coming in at 39th overall (20:11)

ECC hosts the South Coast Conference Championships in Palos Verdes on Friday, Oct. 30. The women’s race is tabbed to begin at 2:15 p.m.

Villarreal Leads Warriors to Fifth-Place Showing at Brubaker Invitational

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Freshman Jennifer Villarreal (North Torrance HS) led the Warriors to a fifth place finish, completing the challenging three-mile course on a hot and dry morning at the Brubaker Invitational on Friday.

Villarreal individually finished 12th overall out of 73 runners (21:12), followed by sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) in 17th (21:25), and freshman Xiomara Perkins (Valencia HS) rounded out the top three with a 24th-place showing (22:18).

The team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

Warriors Finish Seventh at Brubaker Invite

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The ECC men’s cross country team was led by freshman David Hodges (Mira Costa HS), who finished 22nd overall in 22:48 en route to a seventh place team showing on Friday at the Brubaker Invitational.

Freshman Solomon Kanehaiula (North Torrance HS) earned a 28th place finish (23:16) on the four-mile course out of 94 runners, while freshman Michael Moody (Peninsula HS) was the third scorer for the team with a 31st place finish (23:01).

The team is back to competition on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

ECC Led by Griffie at Southern California Regional Preview Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) led the Warriors at the Southern California Regional Preview Invitational on Friday, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 21:07, good for a 50th place finish in the 177-runner field. Overall, El Camino College finished 15th in the team race out of 24. 

Freshman Xiomara Perkins (Valencia HS) recorded the second-best finish for the team with a 85th overall placement in a time of 22:07.
 
The team heads to the Golden West Invitational next on Friday, Sept. 25 in Huntington Beach.

Warriors Finish 16th out of 30 at Southern California Regional Preview Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The men’s cross country team garnered a 16th place finish out of 30 teams at the Southern California Regional Preview Invitational on Friday, led by freshman Solomon Kanehailua’s (North Torrance HS) 22:23 44th place finish out of 205 competitors on the 4-mile course.

Freshman David Hodges (Mira Costa HS) finished 69th overall in a time of 22:44, while freshman Chase Weston (Mira Costa HS) rounded out the top three for the Warriors with an 88th place finish in 23:02.
 
The Golden West Invitational is next on tap for the Warriors on Friday, Sept. 25 in Huntington Beach.
