CCCAA State Championships May 20/21 @ San Diego Mesa College

Freshmen Nicole Clarke and Justin Alexander earn runner-up spots in State Finals.

Nicole Clarke (North Torrance) threw the Javelin 136'0" earning the runner-up spot in the Javelin in the final competition of the year for California Community Colleges.

Justin Alexander (Crenshaw) ran 52.64 in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles placing 2nd in his primary event as well. Justin has already qualified for this year's USATF Junior Nationals event to be held in Clovis in June, and will be attempting to earn a spot on USA's National Junior Team.

Sophomore Zaynab Bent-Mikail placed 5th in the Triple Jump with a mark of 36'6". Other El Camino athletes competing in the State Championshis were freshman Yazmine Al-Uqdah (Mira Costa) in the Long Jump (10th in 16-5 1/2)), freshman Jacob Funes (Peninsula HS) in the High Jump (9th in 6-3), and the men's 1600m relay team comprised of Nayveon Wheaton, Alexander, Chris Park, and Hayden Hinsch (9th in 3:18.70).

El Camino College's new athletic stadium including a 9-lane Beynon track surface is scheduled to open in June of this summer.

Southern California Championships May 7th and 14th

El Camino College had many fine performances highlighted by freshman NICOLE CLARK’S huge 143-0 throw in the Javelin WINNING the So Cal Title! Clarke's throw also moved her up to #5 All-Time on a deep Top 10 performer list.  Big congrat’s to Nicole and throws Coach Darryl Guerin!

Freshman JUSTIN ALEXANDER placed 2nd in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles in 53.23 maintaining the lead right up to the finish when he was nipped at the line by Mt. SAC’s Atencio, but safely advanced to State.

Sophomore ZAYNAB BENT-MIKAIL placed 2nd in the Triple Jump in 39-4 (arguably a “mis-measurement” by the USATF official who also mis-measured another athlete from Southwestern). Nonetheless, the outcome of the qualifiers was not affected as they all advanced to State with solid marks.

SCC 1500m/800m Champ HAYDEN HINSCH placed a solid 3rd in the 1500m in 4:05.47, but due to a complicated qualify-by-time process, the wind-slowed race was not fast enough to advance to the State Championships.

Freshman YAZMINE AL-UQDAH placed 5th in the Long Jump @ 17-9 and advanced to State and also placed 7th in the High Jump @ 5-1.

Freshman JACOB FUNES placed 7th in the High Jump @ 6-3 and advanced to State.

The Men’s 1600m Relay placed 5th in a season-best 3:17.45 (Nayveon Wheaton, Alexander, Chris Park, Hinsch) and advanced to State.

Other fine ECC performers:

Sophomore Chris Park placed 9th in the Long Jump @ 22-6.

Freshman Ashley Wells placed 6th in the Discus @ 122-5.

Freshman Maurice Jones placed 8th in the 400 IH in 56.32.

SAC (88) and El Camino in 9th (27) with the only other conference school scoring points LBCC in 22nd (6). For the men, Mt. SAC won with 207 points followed by Riverside (156) and Cerritos (57).
