ATHLETIC TRAINING
Our objective is to provide the highest level of athletic and sports medicine care to the intercollegiate student-athletes of El Camino College. This includes the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries as well as helping to direct the nutritional, physiological, and psychological needs of the student-athlete. The medical staff will conduct themselves with the highest ethical standards as set forth by the NATA.
El Camino Athletic Training has established the following policies to help fulfill the colleges mission statement and ensure prompt, safe, and competent care to the injured athlete:
1. To allow and encourage easy equitable access of the athletic training services for all intercollegiate student-athletes.
2. Provide medical coverage for all sporting events by NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainers.
3. To reduce the risk of injury for the student-athlete by utilizing injury prevention strategies.
4. To promote a philosophy of sport that places a high value on health, wellness and lifetime fitness.
What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?
The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer facilitates many of the integral aspects of the health care for student-athletes. The athletic trainer must be a well-rounded individual with the ability to assess and treat a variety of athletic injuries from a wide array of sports.
FACTS About Certified Athletic Trainers (supplied by the National Athletic Trainers' Association)1. FACT: All athletic trainers have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Athletic trainers are health care professionals equivalent to physical, occupational, speech, language and other similar therapists.
2. FACT: Strict educational content standards are required for athletic training degree programs:

4. FACT: Athletic trainers know and practice the medical arts at the highest degree.
