Pattison is a product of the South Bay; she grew up in Manhattan Beach and attended Mira Costa High School where she was on a team that attained one of the school’s many CIF championships. She began her collegiate career as a setter for the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1982. That same year, she transferred to El Camino College where she captured regional and state tournament MVP awards for the Warriors. El Camino College won the state title that season with a 16-0 record. Pattison went on to play at California State University, Long Beach from 1984-85. Both years the 49ers competed in the NCAA tournament.

Pattison graduated from CSULB in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education with an emphasis on coaching and fitness. In 1990 she earned her master’s degree in administration from National University.

After competing for Long Beach, Pattison went on to compete on the professional beach volleyball tour from 1986–1991. In the summer of 1992 Pattison began working for the women’s professional tour as tour director; she also worked with the Olympic Challenge Series, and with the AVP touring the country.

Pattison’s first coaching job was at Mira Costa High School in 1987 as an assistant; at that time, the Mustangs were one of the top-ranked teams in the state. She then had the opportunity to coach Division I volleyball with head coach Nina Matthies at Pepperdine University from 1987-1990. The Waves were Western Athletic Conference Champions all four years and made the NCAA playoffs each season she was with the team. In 1997 Pattison was inducted into the El Camino College Athletic Hall of Fame.

The AVCA named Pattison the Regional Coach of the Year in 2004, 2006 and 2008. She was also the Southern Section Coach of the Year in those three years, and was named the 2010 Coach of the Year for the South Coast Conference.

Along with her coaching duties, she teaches a variety of physical education classes at El Camino College.
