ECC COMMENCEMENT DAY ACTIVITIES - FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 2009
ECC GRADUATE & FACULTY RECEPTION - 1:00pm on the ECC Library
Lawn
Graduates, Certificate Recipients, their family
and friends, faculty and staff are cordially invited
and encouraged to attend the Commencement Day Reception. Enjoy
the free refreshments, entertainment and the opportunity to
mingle with faculty and fellow students. Please come dressed in
your cap and gown.
ALL ECC GRADUATES ASSEMBLE FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND
LINE-UP - 3:00pm in the ECC North Gym
Graduates and certificate recipients MUST assemble in cap
and gown for instructions and lineup. There is no
rehearsal so it is imperative that you arrive on time to receive
instructions.
ECC COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY- 4:00pm in Murdock
Stadium
Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend and
sit in the west stands. Gates will open at approximately 2:30pm. No
admission tickets are necessary and ample free parking is available
in the parking structure west of the Stadium. For this event,
the Campus Police and the Parking Committee are waiving the usual
$2.00 parking fee. The ceremony will last approximately two
hours at Murdock Stadium Friday, June 12th at
4:00pm.
INFORMATION FOR ECC GRADUATES AND CERTIFICATE RECIPIENTS
FILE AN ECC GRADUATION INTENT OR PETITION FOR CERTIFICATES at the
ECC Admissions
Office. All Fall, Spring and Summer graduates
and certificate recipients are encouraged
to participate in the commencement ceremony on June 12,
2009. Only ceremony participants will receive a diploma
cover. The actual diplomas will be mailed at a later
date (around September).

ECC CAPS AND GOWNS ON SALE - May 5th through
June 12th at ECC Bookstore during regular
store hours.
These are keeper gowns, which are non-returnable. Purchase price is
$32.95 plus tax (includes cap, gown, and blue tassel). Extra blue
tassel is $5.00 plus tax. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. (No returns even if
unused!) Caps & gowns will only be sold to students who have
completed their degree requirements this year (2008-2009) and who
have applied for graduation and are eligible to graduate
ECC COMMENCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS & DEGREE CARDS ON SALE - May 5th through June 12th at the ECC Bookstore during regular store hours. Limited quantities are available at the cost of $15.95 (plus tax) per package of 10 announcements, 10 degree cards (AA or AS), and 20 envelopes. STUDIO PHOTO SESSIONS FOR ECC GRADUATES in the Bookstore
- For your convenience, the Bookstore has arranged for a
professional photographer to take graduate portraits, with studio
lights and backgrounds beginning June 1-12, 2009 in the Bookstore.
For pricing information, pick up a photo flyer at the
Bookstore.
CLASS RINGS - Available at the entrance of the Stadium on the day of Commencement.

The Commencement program lists your name as a member of the Class of 2009 if you submitted your Intent to Graduate paperwork before the deadline and meet graduation requirements. Participants will receive a copy of the program at the Graduate Assembly in the North Gym and guests will receive a copy of the program at the ceremony in the Stadium.ALL ECC GRADUATES ASSEMBLE FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND LINE-UP - 3:00pm in the ECC North Gym
Graduates and certificate recipient participants are required to assemble in the North Gym at 3:00pm in your cap and gown to receive a copy of the Commencement program and instructions for what will take place during the ceremony. All graduates and certificate recipients (dressed in proper commencement attire) will line up in the North Gym for the processional to the Stadium. There is no rehearsal so it is imperative that you arrive on time to receive instructions.WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE CEREMONY
The processional of graduates and certificate recipients will be led from the North Gym to the Stadium. Faculty will enter the Stadium first followed by the graduates. After the processional, graduates and faculty will be seated, speeches will be given, and college officials will read your name as you come forward to be recognized for completing the requirements for your degree or certificate. There will be a recessional after which family and friends will be invited onto to the Stadium field. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.GRADUATE DO'S AND DON'TS
Graduate Do's
- Arrive at the North Gym on time (3:00 p.m.)
- Pay attention to instructions given to you in the gym, on the field and from the podium. You may be asked to change lines or stand at a particular time and don't want to be caught unaware.
- Be dressed in your Cap & Gown when you arrive
- Be sure your gown is zipped up and appearance is neat. You've accomplished a great feat and should look your best.
- Leave all personal belongings (such as purses, flowers, gifts, cards, etc.) with family members in the stands. There is not room on the field for these things and they may be stepped on or cause a tripping hazard as others exit the row to get their diploma cover.
- Smile and be happy - this is a celebration of your accomplishments!
Graduate Don'ts
- Do not be late! The ceremony starts promptly at 4:00 p.m. If you arrive late, contact a member of the staff on the field to assist you in getting to a seat.
- Do NOT run across the field to catch up with a line.
- Do NOT talk on a cell phone while marching to your seat. If you must call family in the stands, please wait until you are at your seat so the procession will move quickly along.
- Do not take pictures while marching to your seat. Ample time is given at the end of the ceremony for photographs with family and friends.
DIPLOMAS
Commencement Ceremony participants will receive a diploma
cover at the time their name is read. The actual

Digital proofs will be emailed within 24 hours following the
ceremony to all graduates who provide their email address to Bob
Knight Photo representatives at the ceremony. Paper proofs will be
mailed within 1-3 days following the ceremony to all graduates who
provide their address to Bob Knight Photo representatives at the

TV REBROADCAST OF THE ECC CEREMONY AND DVD COPIES - Torrance Community Television will be recording the ceremony for rebroadcast and offering DVD copies for purchase. To encourage full inclusion in all programs and services,
accommodations and alternate formats are available upon request by

3296. It is recommended that special accommodations be made at
least one week prior to the ceremony.

at 4:00pm in Murdock Stadium at El Camino College
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend and sit in the
west side stands only. Gates will open at approximately 2:30pm. No
admission tickets are necessary and seating is on a first-come,
first-served basis. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, family and friends will be
invited on to the field to congratulate the graduates. Please note:
Murdock Stadium is an outdoor venue with bench seating and no
shade. Access to seating involves climbing stairs. A special
section will be set up for wheelchair and disabled guests only.
WEATHER
The El Camino College Commencement Ceremonies will occur rain or
shine. To get current weather reports, check the weather.com website.
DIRECTIONS & MAPS
FREE PARKING
Ample FREE parking is available in the Lot-F parking
structure west of the Stadium. For this event, the Campus
Police and the Parking Committee are waiving the usual parking fee.
Please DO NOT park in Visitor 40/30-minute
parking.
PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS AT THE CEREMONY
During the ceremony, a professional photographer will
photograph each graduate as the diploma covers are presented.
Family and friends are welcome to take photographs and use video
cameras from their seat location in the stands and
are requested to show courtesy to other guests.
Only after the conclusion of the ceremony will everyone be invited
on to the field.
