The annual Fine Arts Faculty Exhibition includes a variety of works of art in a wide range of media. The exhibit provides a look at the aesthetic and educational philosophies advocated by El Camino College Art Department and demonstrates a diversity of concepts and techniques currently characteristic of the art world.
The
majority of the works in the gallery are grounded in an academic approach
to art study and training. Represented in the exhibition are traditional
2-dimensional painting - oil on canvas paintings by Willie Brownlee,
Lee Kim, Binh Ngo, David Patterson and Willie Suzuki;acrylic
painting by Jim Dowdalls, Larry Klepperand Harrison Storms.
Peggy Marsh Ames and Linda Busch present wonderful examples
of watercolor while Jack King exhibits vibrant works in
colored ink on vellum with mixed media. Varied approaches to drawing
in the exhibit include graphite drawing on plaster by Camille
Cornelius, graphite figure drawing by Sandra Trepasso,
charcoal and pastel drawing by Maggie
Lowe Tennesen and prismacolor figure drawing by Beverly
Bledsoe. Rodman de la Cruz combines ink jet printing with drawing
and painting an paper.
Additionally, the printmaking
technique of color intaglio is represented in works by Medora
Wildenberg, while Robin Valle presents Iris prints
and Michael Powe produces exquisite inkjet prints
on rag paper. Besides the familiar technique of black and white
photographic printing represented in beautiful works by Michael
Quinn, Darilyn Rowan and Sandra Trepasso, the exhibition
includes other methods of photographic printing such as large format
polaroid images by Rena
Small, luscious inkjet prints by Susan Einstein,
digital images by Victoria Sanchez and photographic,
xerographic, lithographic monoprints by Laurel Paley.
The exhibit also includes
a cross section of 3-dimensional techniques taught in the department
- jewelry fabrications by Irene Moriand Tina Chambers,stainless
steel sculpture by James Russell, ceramic work by
Neil Moss, and
mixed media works by Deanna
Korda and Annie
Malone. Norm Looney, Susanna Meiers, Michael Miller and Terry
O'Donnell have incorporated found objects into their works, recontextualizing
these objects into new, more complex works. Vons/Safeway Private Lab
Packaging, actual packaging done for commercial purposes by Andrea
B. Micallef, demonstrates not only the diverse possibilities of
art but the great diversity of the Art Department Faculty at
El Camino College.
