"Deckchair", 1997, Resin chair, wood

"Cooler", 1997,   Coolerset, amplified stereo, beer cans, sand
STEPHEN SHACKELFORD cross-pollinates everyday objects such as chaise lounge chairs, shopping carts and house plants with low-tech mechanical devices like stereo speakers and water pumps to produce something astonishing and new. In a sort of modern-day tree of life, Shackelford pipes a ficus tree with plastic arteries gurgling with clear H20. Nearby a chaise lounge doubles as a racing vehicle waiting for a driver. While reveling in the absurd, the artist creates charged hybrids from objects we already know.

"Cart"   Shopping cart with built-in amplified car stereo system, cup holders, cigarette lighter, vinyl exterior. This piece plays music when a key ignition is turned.

"Fender Bender", 1994, mixed
