The
El Camino College Art Gallery is a spacious facility
(Approximately 1,800 sq. ft.) which functions as an exhibition area
for six shows each academic year.
Exhibits are selected from professional artists, faculty and students
in a broad variety of media including sculpture, painting, drawing,
jewelry, photography, illustration, computer graphics, printmaking
and mixed media installation. The gallery provides high quality
exhibitions which are topically stimulating and relevant to the
greater community as well as pertinent to the art department program.
|
| The
Art Gallery serves as a visual arts laboratory for the art department
and is an integral component of the Art Appreciation
and Art History programs. Numerous students, faculty
and community members attend the lectures by visiting artists scheduled
in the gallery in conjunction with each show. Classes from diverse
departments such as English, History and Speech as well as the Art
Department, come to the gallery frequently, using the exhibitions
as a springboard for discussion. |
| Art
34,
also known as "Gallery Management and Artist's Career Issues",
is a class which emphasizes the business and presentation of art
within a gallery context. Taught by a member of the gallery staff,
students enrolled in Art 34 discuss issues relating to contemporary
art and work closely with artists exhibiting in the gallery. Consequently,
these students receive first-hand experience with exhibition design,
lighting design, art administration, and artist's career issues. |
