Conner
Everts
is an extraordinary person. His life has been a rich welter of experience
- international education and life abroad as an artist, teacher, longshoreman,
and seaman. He has had a family, in fact, several families, founded
an art gallery (Exodus, San Pedro, CA) and profoundly influenced other
artists and students. His artwork is represented in myriads of private
collections and can be seen in many museums. He has survived the Great
Depression, a severe police beating in the Viet Nam Era and an obscenity
trial in the 60s and he has maintained a wicked sense of humor
throughout. Everts studio, next to the railroads tracks in old
Torrance, was once a corner market. Now the building houses the roiling
output of a man who works most days from 3 a.m - 4 p.m. Its a
full house of drawings, prints, sculpture, paintings and collage, marked
by the complexity, wit and intelligence of the artist.
