| In her installation "SHHHHH" ANGIE BRAY attaches long thin wooden rods and clear glass bulbs to boxed motors and turns them loose to quiety wave in space. The repetitious but erratic movement of the sticks is effected by the bumpy peculiarities of the walls of the installation site and by the pull of gravity itself. As the 50-some-odd gently groping reeds explore the walls, touch each other, brush and bounce away, one is struck by the deeply feeling quality emmanating from the utterly mechanical devices. Through stripping form and movement down to an essential level Bray creates the space for wonder and for the visitor's sense of poetic observations. |
