WHIRLING DERVISHES OF TURKEY


The Mevlevi sect has kept the tradition of whirling to ecstasy alive for seven centuries. Among the most exquisite ceremonies of spirituality, this ritual conveys a "sense of oneness and yearning for transcendence that can speak deeply to any contemporary audience" (L.A. Times).

This "southwestern jazz supergroup" creates a fusion of the world�s cultural traditions. The Native American flute virtuosity of Nakai blends with the eco–spiritual vocalizations of bassist Mary Redhouse, the sun–fired sax and keyboard of Amo Chip Dabney and the pan–global percussion of Will Clipman.
