CALICO WINDS
Rachel Berry
, horn
Eileen Holt
, flute
Rong-Huey Lin
, oboe
Kathryn Nevin
, clarinet
Theresa Trenenfels, bassoon

A wind quintet that scintillates and lives up to its "calico" name, bursting with colors and textures. As the Los Angeles Times observed, the quintet "has crossed all the style lines and gotten away with it." Their musical cocktail of a program mixes a Bach fugue with Luciano Berio's wry Opus Number Zoo, the melancholy of Mahler with the tropical rhythms of Paquito D'Rivera.

Marsee Auditorium $22 / $19

Friday, March 15 at 8 pm
KEVIN KENNER
Pianist
Fifteen Scenes from the Life of Chopin
The Romantic era of Chopin is realized in image and sound! The places, words and effortlessly expressive music of Frederic Chopin's tragically brief life blend seamlessly in this multimedia journey. International Chopin Competition winner "Kevin Kenner" interprets the composer's mazurkas, polonaises, preludes and nocturnes with true mastery. The critic of London's The Independent proclaimed after a Kenner recital," I never felt as close to the truth of Chopin's ballades."

Marsee Auditorium $22 / $19

ROBIN FOLLMAN,
soprano
HENRI VENANZI, piano

With a voice that has been described as "free and pure" and "rich and gorgeous," Orange County native Robin Follman is making waves in the opera world. Familiar to audiences of Opera Pacific, she's sung lead roles at New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera and Washington Opera and crisscrossed the nation winning acclaim. Puccini, Handel and arias of verismo heroines from her soon-to-be-released CD are on the El Camino bill.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA OF THE SOUTH BAY
FRANCES STEINER, conductor
ROBERT THIES, piano

Agreat opportunity to hear this orchestra, which has been subscribed out the past few seasons at their home theatre. Frances Steiner and her ensemble—consistently praised for their high standards of performance—teams with Robert Thies, the first American since Van Cliburn to win a Russian piano competition, to reprise their season closing concert at Marsee. Thies is a "gifted and insightful interpreter" (L.A. Weekly) who has brought U.S. and European audiences to their feet.

Haydn symphony No. 103 "Drum Roll"
