TURTLE
ISLAND STRING QUARTET
with
Special Guest Paquito D'Rivera,
clarinet

Two pathbreaking artistic forces team
up for an extraordinary evening. D'Rivera founded Irakere,
whose explosive mixture of jazz, rock, classical and traditional
Cuban music had never been heard before. Turtle Island has
created bold, new trends in chamber music, fusing the classical
string quartet aesthetic with popular styles. A chance meeting at
Newark Airport brought them together and a collaborative album and
tour is the happy result.

GEORGE WINSTON

After hearing records by the legendary
Thomas "Fats" Waller and the late Teddy Wilson, Winston took
up the acoustic piano and created the melodic, impressionistic renderings
that have made him a Grammy-winning instrumentalist. His seasonally-themed
albums are among the most popular in an impressive recorded catalogue.
Entitled "Summer", his program at El Camino features selections
that span his 30-year career.

DIANNE
REEVES
Tribute to Sarah Vaughn
One
of today's greatest vocalists salutes her guide and inspiration.
"Sarah opened the door," says Reeves, whose career
proves that the jazz vocal tradition is in good hands since the
passing of greats like Vaughan. Possessed of a strong agile voice,
rhythmic virtuosity and improvisational ease, Reeves can sing in
just about any style she chooses. The LosAngeles Times hailed
her as "an original who really walks the walk."
