- Welcome everybody!
I’m Dr. Diane Gross
and I teach English 7, "Speed & Power Reading" here at El Camino
College. In fact, I wrote the course for ECC and I've been teaching it
for 20 years.
Now I assume you are here because you are registered for
English 7 or you are considering taking it. My question to you is Why?
Perhaps you are simply looking for a way to get three CSU/UC-transferable
units and learn a useful skill to boot. Possibly, you are here because
this course meets the ECC General Education Requirement, "Communication and Analytical
Thinking," for the A.A. and A.S. degrees. Or, maybe, you heard
that English 7 satisfies the English 2R requirement.
Regardless of what your course needs are, I would guess that all of you
have some interest in reading better and faster. After all, this is a
"Speed Reading" course! So the good news is...

You’ve come to exactly the right place!
In fact, if you
read all the lectures, take the quizzes, and do the assignments, I’ll
make you a promise. Here it is:
PROMISE: At the end of this semester, you’ll read approximately two
to four times as fast as you did when you entered the course. And that’s not all! You will understand and remember what you read much
better than before.
