Only students who officially registered (or who received prior permission from the instructor) may login. Those who add themselves to the Blackboard class without permission will be removed.
The Course Management System for this class (Blackboard) is hosted by the publisher of the textbook, not the college. You will not be accessing the ETUDES system for this class. You need to have regular access to the internet several times per week. Please Note: AOL isn't compatible with Blackboard, but you can use it to connect to the internet, then use Internet Explorer or Netscape to log on. Do not try accessing Blackboard via AOL.
Use the following instructions to login. You'll be creating your own account and loading yourself into the class roster. Please follow all of the steps below (#1-4):
1. Go to http://webtutorsummer.blackboard.com (AOL users must access Blackboard using Netscape or Internet Explorer. Failure to do so will cause numerous problems because Blackboard is not compatible with AOL).
2. Select CREATE ACCOUNT. You'll be required to enter the following:
a) first and last name (use upper case for the first letters of your names,
lower case for the rest. Example: John Smith).
b) your email address (you will be receiving messages from the instructor
throughout the semester so include an address you access on a regular basis)
c) username and password (create your own and write this down somewhere
in case you forget it later; the instructor does not have access to this
information).
Select SUBMIT. If your account was successfully created, select OK (otherwise choose another username).
3. You will now need to "enroll" in the class. From your Blackboard page, select the COURSES tab at the top of the page, then BROWSE COURSE CATALOG. In the "Search for a Course" space, type in WATERS. Find the ANTH 2 (Cultural Anthro), Waters, Fall 2008 listing and select ENROLL, then SUBMIT and OK. You have now entered the class. I have more than one online class so please make sure you enroll in the right one! You are not officially registered in this class, until you have done so with the Admissions office.
To enter class in the future, go to: http://webtutorsummer.blackboard.com and type in your username and password.
4. Once you log on, do the following immediately: go to the course menu (blue buttons on the left) and click on "Tools", "Personal Information", "Set Textbox Editor Options", and select "Disable". Then go to www.Mozilla.com and download Firefox (free). Every student - even those who have taken online classes before - must do this to prevent possible problems with the textboxes in exams and other potential computer problems.
PLEASE NOTE: there may be a card inserted in the textbook with a
passcode. This provides you with access to InfoTrac, an optional tool provided by the textbook publisher, but it's not required for this class.
