welcome to chem 21B

The study of organic chemistry continues from Chemistry 21A with the nomenclature, properties, preparation, reactions and derivatives of carboxylic acids, amines, aldehydes and ketones. Principles of biochemistry are introduced. Descriptions of the structures and biochemical reactions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids will be analyzed. Catabolic/anabolic pathways as well as the energy consumed or produced by the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins will be examined. The chemistry of photosynthesis will be studied.

In chemistry we use scientific calculators a lot, so get a calculator that you feel comfortable with that is also affordable. The calculator that I use is the Sharp EL-506W scientific calculator. It is cheap (around $14.00) has so many useful functions for the price. Also, it's available just about anywhere (bookstore, Fry's, etc.).
