Journal Prompts:
Due Week of February 12 - In Chapter 1 of the textbook, several ancient numbering systems are described. One is the Greek system (Ionic, page 10). Create a table using the English alphabet for numbers. How would you determine if "sob" was a number or a word? Think about our number system and the impacts on your life of having a number system like the Greek system.
NOTE - the Greek system was NOT Place Value, so "aa" is not 11; "ja"=10+1 is 11
Due Week of February 19 - What is Socrates' theory of learning? Did you find his argument strong or weak? Why (in either case)? Did you believe his conclusion? Why or why not?
Due Week of February 26 - In John Jones Dollar, the author projects over 500 years in his future. Some of the items he names as being used in his future have already occurred. For example, the author makes a point of saying the professor has a microphone with no wires. We have those today (Bluetooth is a common interface for wireless microphones). Some things he identifies are not true today. Identify a few items (at least 1 in each category) and discuss
1) how our lives would be different if the the item was NOT available,
2) how our lives would be different if the item WAS available today.
Due Week of March 4 - No Journal -exam week.
Due Week of March 11 - Free Journal. Select from journal suggestions or do your own. Math related would be nice.
Due Week of March 18 - Free Journal.
