Dr. William E. Doyle is a Professor of Music at El Camino College. After being on the faculty at the University of Rhode Island for five years, he moved to California to work on his doctorate and to teach at the University of Southern California. In 1988 he completed his doctorate in Music Education with a specialization in Conducting and was the Assistant Conductor of both the U.S.C. Wind Ensemble and the Pasadena Young Musician's Orchestra. His trumpet teachers include George Kent (U.R.I.), Edward Tarr (Switzerland), Vincent Cichowicz (Northwestern), Fred Sautter (Portland State), Charles Schlueter (Boston Symphony Orchestra), and Boyde Hood (U.S.C.).

In 1993, he and Dr. Arthur Verge began the Salzburg/Vienna Institute Study Abroad program - one of the most successful programs in the US. In 1995 he and Dr. Gary Iida started the South Bay Youth Orchestra (SBYO) in order to provide performance opportunities for young musicians in the South Bay. Today, he is the music director of both the SBYO and the Vienna Honor Orchestra. He is also on the part-time faculties at Copper Mountain College, Citrus College and College of the Canyons, where he co-led a study abroad program in 2003 to Australia and New Zealand. The author of five books on music, Dr. Doyle is a specialist in music history and music of world cultures. As of May 2004, he has traveled to 49 states and over 40 countries!

Presently, he is active as a composer and trumpet soloist throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Brazil, and recently in Australia and New Zealand. His compositions and arrangements have been performed in the US, Canada, Russia, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Outside of music, he is a certified SCUBA instructor and an avid rock climber. As a photographer, his numerous 'adventure' photos can be seen on the web at www.cidx.net and in many local L.A. and South Bay restaurants and coffee houses.
