Jose Gallegos

Jose attended Santa Monica College (SMC) in 2004-2005. After getting a “good paying job” while at SMC, he stopped going to school. While working full-time, he realized that he needed an education if he wanted to do something meaningful in life.

In 2009 he decided to attend El Camino College (ECC) to continue the pursuit of his education. He completed six semesters at ECC and received an Associate in Science Degree in Mathematics in 2011. Jose is now attending the University of California Irvine working on a degree in Computer Science, Engineering.

Mireya Graciano

Mireya is currently working as a Sign Language Interpreter at El Camino College (ECC) after graduating from California State University Northridge in 2006. It was while attending ECC taking her general education classes that she learned about the sign language program and classes. Earning her Associate in Science Degree from El Camino College helped her in her goal to get her Bachelor in Arts Degree.

She is currently working on her Masters in Sign Language at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and will be graduating in 2013. She values education because it has opened her mind to new ideas and has connected her to people who have led her to great opportunities.

  Raul Campos

Raul considers that growing up from humble beginnings was a source of his drive for education. His parents emigrated to the United States; his mother is from Mexico and his father from El Salvador. He knew that college was the only way for him to succeed in life, give back to his parents, and give back to his community. He has always wanted to be in the business field whether it was sports or video games.

He received an Associate in Arts Degree in English from El Camino College in 2005 and transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) where he received a Bachelor in Science in Business Administration. He is now working at Fox Sports as a Nation Client Service Coordinator. He is a dedicated, hard worker, with a strong work ethic and will stop at nothing to succeed.

Walter's talent was acknowledged early-on by the fashion industry, as his quality, style, and technique have put him far ahead of the competition. Throughout all of this Walter remains humble; generously granting an audience with clients whenever one is possible. Walter lives for his work and will continue to create as his inspiration will never dwindle. The desire to make the body appear striking, eye-catching, and spectacular, is a calling that will never go away.

Henry graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in Public Policy, Management and Planning.  Before transferring to USC, Henry attended El Camino College from 2003-2005 and was part of the First Year Experience Learning communities program. Henry credits a lot of his academic success to the relationships he built and fostered while at ECC. The mentoring and support he received from faculty and staff facilitated Henry’s smooth transition into a four year institution and prepared him for the rigors of university life.

Henry is currently an Administrative Analyst with the University of California Los Angeles Graduate Division within the Fellowship & Financial Services office.  Among his responsibilities, he provides information to graduate students, department staff, and faculty regarding fellowship administration; helps oversee Graduate Student human resource policy and serves as an advocate to graduate students on a wide range of issues. His future plans include attending Graduate School in the area of Public Administration.

SP_F11_Jessica_Asbell

Jessica Asbell

Jessica Asbell is what you might refer to as a non-traditional student. She joined the workforce immediately following high school, only later to discover her need for (and desire for) a college degree.  She decided to attend El Camino College in Fall 2003.  Without a major, or a clear vision of what the future held, she began to chip away at her general education requirements, while remaining employed full-time.  She soon found herself in an Astronomy course and realized what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, teach science.  Since then her passion for science education and conviction of its growing need have only increased. She received her Associate in Arts in General Studies and her Associate in Science in Physics from El Camino in 2009. Jessica transferred to UCLA and will receive her Bachelor in Science in Astrophysics in Spring 2012.
