BHA and RILA (Bibliography of the History of Art and Repertoire de la litterature de l'Art) are comprehensive bibliographies of scholarly writing about the history of Western art. They are available free of charge on the J. Paul Getty Trust web site.
JSTOR Arts and Sciences archive offers full-text back issues of scholarly journals primarily in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. This database also includes a selection of titles in the more science-oriented fields of ecology, mathematics, and statistics. For most of the journals, the time lag between the publication of the most current issue and content availability in JSTOR is 3 to 5 years.
Using the Magazine, Journal, and Newspaper databases should also be considered.
