Book Index with Reviews (BIR) is a comprehensive database that provides basic information on over 5 million book titles in a wide range of formats, as well as multimedia materials such as DVD and sound recording titles. It also offers over 800,000 full-text searchable reviews of the various titles included.
Gale Literary Databases provides access to the online versions of 3 standard print literary reference works. 1) Contemporary Authors provides biographical and bibliographical information on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors. 2) Dictionary of Literary Biography features essays about authors, their lives and works, by recognized literary scholars and critics. 3) Contemporary Literary Criticism Select offers critical analysis of key literary works by major and new authors--selecting and enhancing information from the print title, Contemporary Literary Criticism.
Literature Criticism Online: Poetry Criticism and Short Story Criticism offers online searchable versions of the standard reference books, Poetry Criticism and Short Story Criticism. Poetry Criticism provides literary analysis and commentary on poets and poems of all eras. Short Story Criticism provides analysis and commentary on major authors of short fiction and their works. The database uses a format that matches the look and feel of the print originals, but the coverage is more up-to-date than the ECC Library’s print volumes of these two titles.
Literature Resource Center is a comprehensive course of literature information from books, journals, and authoritative Web sites. It includes literary criticism, biographical profiles (U.S. and international authors), book reviews, and author interviews.
Using the Magazine, Journal, and Newspaper databases should also be considered.
Note regarding print resources: The reference collection has literary criticism on novels, plays, poems and short stories, as well as biographical information about authors past and present. A guide listing these resources is available in the library and here online.
