ECC COMMENCEMENT DAY ACTIVITIES - FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016
ECC GRADUATE & FACULTY RECEPTION - 1:00 p.m. on the Library Lawn
Graduates, Certificate Recipients, their family and friends, faculty and staff are cordially invited and encouraged to attend the Commencement Day Reception. Enjoy the complimentary refreshments, entertainment and the opportunity to mingle with faculty and fellow students. Please come dressed in your cap and gown. Everyone is invited to join the funat the "Blue Carpet Event" photo opportunity. Grads and guests are encouraged to use #ECCGrad on all graduation-related social media posts!
ALL ECC GRADUATES ASSEMBLE FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND LINE-UP - 3:00 p.m. in the Marsee Auditorium
Graduates and certificate recipients MUST assemble in cap and gown for instructions and line-up. There is no rehearsal so it is imperative that you arrive on time to receive instructions.
ECC COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
4:00 p.m. in the Stadium - rain or shine
Friends and family are cordially invited to attend and sit in the stands. Gates will open at approximately 2:30 p.m. No admission tickets are necessary and seating is on a first come, first served basis. Please note: the entrance to the stands will close at 3:45 p.m. for the Processional. The entrance to the stands will re-open for guests, after the last graduate enters the field.
Ample FREE parking is available in the Lot-F parking structure west of the Stadium or the Lot-H five-story parking structure on Redondo Beach Blvd. For this event, the Campus Police and the Parking Committee are waiving the usual parking fee. Please DO NOT park in Visitor 30/40-minute parking.
The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
FILE AN ECC GRADUATION INTENT OR PETITION FOR CERTIFICATES at the ECC Admissions Office. All Fall, Spring and Summer graduates and certificate recipients are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony on May 13, 2016. Only ceremony participants will receive a diploma cover. The actual diplomas will be mailed at a later date (around September/October).
PRINTED COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM
The Commencement Program lists your name as a member of the Class of 2016 if you submitted your Intent to Graduate paperwork before the deadline and meet graduation requirements. Participants will receive a copy of the program at the Graduate Assembly in the Marsee Auditorium and guests will receive a copy of the program at the ceremony.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE CEREMONY
The Processional of graduates and certificate recipients will be led from the Marsee Auditorium to the Stadium. The Platform Party will lead teh Processional, followed by the Faculty and graduates. After the processional, graduates and faculty will be seated, speeches will be given, and college officials will read your name as you come forward to be recognized for completing the requirements for your degree or certificate. Following the recessional, guests are invited to join the graduates on the Library Lawn for the "Blue Carpet Event" photo opportunity. Grads and guests are encouraged to use #ECCGrad on all graduation-related social media posts!
STUDENT SPEAKER APPLICATION
The Student Commencement Speaker must be a member of the graduating class and must submit and audition their speech to the selection committee. A speech of up to three minutes will be allowed, on a topic appropriate to the occasion. The application and typed manuscript is due to the Student Development Office by Friday, April 1, 2016, 1:00pm. - Arrive at the Marsee Auditorium on time (3:00 p.m.)
- Pay attention to instructions given to you in the Marsee, on the field and from the podium. You may be asked to change lines or stand at a particular time and don't want to be caught unaware.
- Be dressed in your blue Cap & Gown when you arrive. Graduates not in the ECC blue cap and gown will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
- Be sure your gown is zipped up and your appearance is neat. You've accomplished a great feat and should look your best.
- Leave all personal belongings (such as purses, flowers, gifts, cards, etc.) with family members in the stands. There is no room on the field for these things and they may be stepped on or cause a tripping hazard as others exit the row to get their diploma cover.
- Smile and be happy - this is a celebration of you and your accomplishments!
- Do not be late! The ceremony starts promptly at 4:00 p.m. If you arrive late, contact a member of the staff on the field to assist you in getting to a seat.
- Do NOT run across the field to catch up with a line.
- Do NOT talk on a cell phone while marching to your seat. If you must call family in the stands, please wait until you are at your seat so the procession will move quickly along.
- Do not take pictures while marching to your seat. Ample time is given at the end of the ceremony for photographs with family and friends on the Library Lawn.
Commencement Ceremony participants will receive a diploma cover at the time their name is read. The actual diplomas will be mailed at a later date (around September/October).

Taken during the Ceremony as diploma cover is received. Digital proofs will be emailed within 2-4 days following the ceremony to all graduates who provide their email address to Grad Images representatives at the ceremony. Paper proofs will be mailed within 5-7 days following the ceremony to all graduates who provide their address to Grad Images representatives at the ceremony. SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS AND SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS AT THE ECC CEREMONY
Sign language interpretation will be offered in the front row of the westside bleachers. There will be signs on the bleacher seats that reserve seats for spectators needing sign language interpretation. Additional seats for individuals with disabilities will also be in the first row of the westside bleachers.
To encourage full inclusion in all programs and services, accommodations and alternate formats are available upon request by calling the ECC Special Resource Center at 310-660-3593, ext. 3296. It is recommended that special accommodations be made at least one week prior to the ceremony.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend and sit in the stands only. Gates will open at approximately 2:30 p.m.. No admission tickets are necessary and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The ceremony will last approximately two hours. Following the recessional, guests are invited to join the graduates in the East Dining/Alondra rooms above the Bookstore for the "Blue Carpet Event" photo opportunity. Grads and guests are encouraged to use the hashtag #ECCGrad on all graduation-related social media posts!
Please note: the stadium is an outdoor venue with bench seating and no shade. Access to seating involves climbing stairs. A special section will be set up for wheelchair and disabled guests only. Seating in this section is limited to ONE (1) guest per person using a wheelchair. There are no exceptions.
STROLLERS - Strollers are not permitted in the grandstands. Stroller parking will be available. We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
The El Camino College Commencement Ceremonies will occur rain or shine.

During the ceremony, a professional photographer will photograph each graduate as the diploma covers are presented. Family and friends are welcome to take photographs and use video cameras from their seat location in the stands and are requested to show courtesy to other guests.

RINGS, GIFTS, T-SHIRTS AND FLOWERS
The Bookstore has a fine selection of college gifts and cards. For your convenience, flower bouquets, Jostens class rings, grad pillows and t-shirts will be sold at the commencement entrance on the day of Commencement, May 13, 2016.
