Student Development - Service Area Outcomes (SAOs)

Service Area Outcome #1 - Student Conduct

Students subject to the student conduct process will learn to comply with institutional policies; and commit no additional violations of institutional policies at El Camino College.

  1. Data Analysis - Metrics will be compiled from student conduct cases to assess the number of students involved in the student conduct process to determine the percentage of those who have repeat violations over a two year period
  2. Target/Standard For SAO - It is expected that 5% or less of students violating institutional policies will be repeat violators

Services Area Outcome #2 - ASO/ICC Leadership Philosophy

Students involved in student government will be able to articulate a personal leadership philosophy or style as a result of their involvement in student government

  1. Pre/Post Test – ASO and ICC leaders will complete a leadership assessment and write a leadership philosophy at summer retreat and then retake the leadership assessment at the end of their term. The survey item to be assessed is “I am aware of my personal leadership philosophy”
  2. Target/Standard For SAO - It is expected that students will report a 30% increase in answering strongly agree or agree from pre-test to post-test.  It is also expected that at least 75% of students will answer strongly agree or agree to the statement on the post-test
  3. SDO participants – Brianna von Stein and Greg Toya
Service Area Outcome #3 - ASO/ICC Campus Impact

Students involved in student government will understand their ability to impact the campus community based on their participation in student government and college governance

  1. Pre/Post Test – ASO and ICC leaders will complete a leadership assessment and write a leadership philosophy at summer retreat and then retake the leadership assessment at the end of their term. The survey items to be assessed are “I understand how my role as a student leader impacts the campus community” and “I understand how my role as a student leader impacts students”
  2. Target/Standard For SAO - It is expected that students will report a 20% increase in answering strongly agree or agree from pre-test to post-test.  It is also expected that at least 95% of students will answer strongly agree or agree to both statements on the post-test
  3. SDO participants – Brianna von Stein and Greg Toya
