SOUTH BAY CHILDREN'S CHOIR

The South Bay Children’s Choir (SBCC) is a select group of talented young singers sponsored by El Camino College (ECC) in Torrance, California. SBCC is comprised of over 125 boys and girls ranging in age from 7 to 17. These young singers come from over 25 communities in the South Bay, as well as from communities as far away as Orange County and Santa Monica. The choir was co-founded in 1996 by Artistic Director, Diane Simons, and Dr. Jane Hardester (now retired). Our staff is dedicated to providing children with an educational and nurturing environment that is disciplined and joyful in the pursuit of excellence in the choral art.

SBCC members earn college credit for their studies in ensemble singing, voice production, music theory, sight-reading, choreography, and a varied choral repertoire. The Alexander Technique voice training is provided for the advanced singers. Members participate in an audition-placement process and each child is carefully placed in one of five different progressive levels. They were presented the “Award for Excellence in Music” in 2001 by the Torrance Cultural Arts Council. The singers toured in England in 2002, and traveled to Hawaii to perform in the Pacific Rim Festival in 2004. In July of 2006, the advanced singers performed in Alaska, leaving the ship from Fairbanks.

Auditions are held by appointment only, starting January. Go online or Call 310-640-9818. Rehearsals are held at El Camino College in the Music Building most sections Saturdays 9:00 am to noon. Beginning level class on Mondays 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm. The ASB supports the SBCC.
