SOUTH BAY YOUTH ORCHESTRA

The South Bay Youth Orchestra Started in 1995 by Dr. William E. Doyle, a Professor at El Camino College. This program provides performance opportunities for young musicians from the age of seven to seventeen to perform with world class musicians and Grammy award winners here at El Camino College; performers such as Daniel Ho & Jake Shimabukuro-ukulele master. This is a great opportunity to show these talented performers how to relate and communicate with other players.

Dr. Patrick Shultz, a full-time El Camino faculty member, is now in charge of The SBYO. He looks forward to the upcoming season with a newly assembled staff of talented and highly-regarded local professors and musicians such as Cosima Luther, principal conductor and string specialist; Amanda Schultz, manager and woodwind specialist and Tonya Jaynes, percussion specialist.

The Youth Orchestra consist of 120 talented children. Certain students, because of their special talent, are featured in some of the performances. Recently a young violinist by the name of Ms. Chika Emori has been exciting crowds with her music. She has won numerous awards and scholarships and has performed in Europe as well.

This year auditions are in Sept. by appointment only and are held in the Marsee auditorium. Rehearsals are held in the Marsee as well, every Wed. 6pm to 9:30pm. Once in the orchestra, they become eligible for college credits.

If you have questions please call the SBYO at (310) 660-3593 X3703 or go to sbyomusic@gmail.com and sbyorchestra.com.
